What do I think the play reveals about our need for freedom? About the power of love? About courage and hope? About good and evil?

This play reveals that our need for freedom is severe. Can you imagine a normal teenager these days sitting still for like 10 hours? I CAN'T!!! I know that imagination is a really good way to be free of our worries for a while but I think that at our age we would need the freedom of being able to laugh super hard so we cry, run around crazy in our bare feet, and just scream at the top of our lungs just for fun. This story is really all about love. If Anne's family hadn't loved eachother I don't think they could have lasted. Their love was so strong that they couldn't stop loving eachother and that's how they could stay together in such a small space for so long. They were very courageous and hopeful through this story. I think that the themes of this story was courage and hope so this story really expressed how courageous they were to stay in hiding and not freak out when they got scared. And hope that one day they'd be free to walk the streets again and not to just commit suicide and give up on life. In my book good always triumphs over evil....eventually. I haven't seen the end but maybe even though Anne never got to see freedom of the Jews again, her story lived on and inspires us today to never give up hope and always love because nothing is stronger than really loving. Also the theme of prejudice is really why this story happened because Hitler was prejudice against the Jews. Another story that has prejudice as one of its theme is Pride and Prejudice. The prejudice part is because the man's old mother didn't like the girl that he thought he loved . I'm not sure why she didn't like her but it was something prejudice against her, so the old lady was like Hitler in the Holocaust and the girl that he loved was like the Jews in the Holocaust. This was truly an amazing story of how you shouldnt' be prejudice, how strong the power of love is, how important it is to be courageous even when you're afraid and to never give up hope, and that good will triumph over evil, maybe it won't look like it at the time but now we see how the hope and goodness of Anne triumphed over all the bad things that happened to her and she never gave up hope.

Why are there so many books, movies, and documentaries, etc. about the Holocaust? Why do we keep retelling this story??

The Holocaust was definitely a terrible time period for everyone. I know it might seem weird that we would keep repeating and retelling the story of how much people suffered, but it really was an amazing story. I think that it's still being retold because of the hope and faith and loyalty all of the people had to being a Jew. It relaly showed that they loved and believed that their religion was right and that Hitler was wrong. they also showed their love and loyalty to eachother by helping eachother out and even the people that didn't have to go into hiding helped out and were courageous against Hitler and the Nazis. We don't focus on everything Hitler and the Nazi's did and how bad it was but we focus on how faithful and loyal the Jews were to eachother and their religion.

Describe how the Hanukkah celebration in Scene 5 is interrupted.

As they're having the Hannukah celebration they hear a thief underneath them in the office. They all freeze and you could almost hear their hearts pounding in their chests. They watch as the cat walks over and is hitting a loud metal can and then Peter tries to grab the cat and it makes a HUGE ruckuss sound. BANG!!! Everyone froze and they hear the thief run out of the building. Her father goes down to investigate and then peter and Anne follow him to make sure that he's ok. Some guards that were walking by heard the commotion and go in to investigate. They almost see Anne and Peter because Anne faints from being so scared. Peter carries her up to the house and her father follows and thankfully the guards never caught them. Mr. Dussel got super upset because he thought that the thief would blackmail the police by saying that if they didn't send him to prison he would tell them where some jews were hiding. So mr. Dussel freaked everyone in the household out and got really mad and Peter and his cat because they made all the noise.

How do the events following Anne's nightmare reveal tensions between Anne and 2 other members of the household?

Act 1, Scenes 4,5:

After Anne's nightmare. Mr. Dussel gets very upset because he's afraid someone heard her scream and she's not quiet enough at night so he can't sleep. I think he was just grouchy because it was late at night and he was old and grumpy. Also her mom came in to try and comfort her and make her feel better but she just ignored her and refused her comfort. i felt really bad for her mom because she was trying to show her love for Anne but Anne wouldn't show any love back. Her mom became very upset and was deeply hurt and Mr. Dussel was always complaining and grumpy to Anne esoecially after that.

What do I think this statement means? Do I agree??

Statement: Act 1: "But always remember Anneke. There are no walls, there are no bolts, no locks that anyone can put on youre mind."

I think that he's saying to her that no matter how long she can't go anywhere or do much, she can always use her imagination to keep her excitement and exploration in her brain alive. I agree witht his statement because we should always keep our imagination alive and creativeness in us awake. Imagination is almost better than moving around and if Anne didn't keep her imagination alive I think she would have gone crazy because of the boredness.

Foreshadowing a) Why does Mr. Frank break down when he sees the glove???

Mr. Frank breaks down when he sees the glove because it was bringing back so many memories of the past to him. It could remind him of all sorts of things (probably bad things since he's crying) of the past during the Holocaust. Maybe he misses his daughter (Anne) or maybe he just was overwhelmed with emotion because of all the terrible times that they had to go through and this glove was a part of it so it made him remember those times.

What do I think the theme of the play Anne Frank is??

I think that there's more than 1 theme of Anne Frank. 1 theme is probably to never give up hope on anything. Throughout the play it shows many times how (usually) the Van Daans are all discouraged and just want to give up and think that it's over but Anne and Mr. Frank tell them to never give up hope and they pray and try to get everyone into happier moods. Another theme is courage. Every single person that was apart of keeping those people hidden or just hiding themselves were courageous. Their very lives were at risk by doing that, but they did it because they believed that Jews shouldn't be treated any different than anyone else and they wanted to show their loyalty and courage to their friends by helping them out. (In Miep and Mr. Kraler's case.) In the actual Jews that lived in the house the courage was to not lose hope and to be very aware of what was going on so that they would know when to be quiet or not. They had to watch out for everything that they did because one wrong move and they'd be caught. They were courageous to not just give up or get so scared that they couldn't think. They kept teir witts about them and pushed throught the hard times because of never giving up hope and being courageous.

What is prejudice? Where have I seen prejudice in the World? What are the effects of prejudice??

Prejudice is when someone has a bad feeling or a disliking towards someone or something. Its like they're against that person or thing just because of their own reason. The reason is always different for everyone or maybe you don't have a reason. Being prejudice is bad because it means that you will never be with that person or use or do that thing again just because you don't feel like it. It's very unfair and sometimes you're right in being prejudice but not all the time. I think that Hitler was very prejudice against Jews. He had his own reasons why and I'm not sure what they were, but him and all of the Nazis were very prejudice against Jews and they took their anger or hatred that caused them to be prejudice and just poured it out on the Jews and ruined their lives. Because Hitler and the Nazis were prejudice about the Jews, they ruined the Jews' lives, killed many people, made others hate them, and caused many countries to go into chaos or war. It was a terrible time of not knowing who was right or anything and I believe that it would never have started if Hitler had just sorted out his feelings for the Jews instead of being prejudice. Prejudice caused a lot of hard times and sad times for the Jews and other, so I encourage everyone that if you do feel prejudice towards someone or something don't let the feeling fill you up and just figure out how you could get rid of that prejudice feeling. Don't be like Hitler.

What do I know already about the Holocaust??

The Holocaust was the time in Germany and other countries around it where Hitler decided that he would just start killing and doing anything he could to Jewish people just because he didn't like them. I don't know much more than that, except that the Nazis were Hitler's army and they would march through the streets or they would be in charge of concentration camps or death camps for The Jews. This was such a terrible time for the Jews! They were treated completely unfair just because they were Jewish. They were tortured, threatened, mocked, and killed all because Hitler had power and he abused it to get rid of Jews. Hitler was a monster and he ruined and took many people's lives during the Holocaust. It was a terrible time and thankfully it's over but it will be interesting to learn about it in class and to really understand exactly what the Jewish people had to go through, if we can understand that.

THE GREATEST FRIEND YOU COULD HAVE!!!

Do you have a friend that you know will stick with you through anything???? In the book Red Scarf Girl there is someone that isn't the "main" character but I think she is just as important as Ji-li Jiang (a.k.a. the main character.) Her name is An Yi and she was Jili's BEST friend. Jili had known An Yi since like they were born. They grew up together and were best friends. An Yi wasn't as popular as Jili but they were still REALLY good friends, then when the Cultural Revolution started they were both looked down upon and mocked and treated badly. Even when An Yi's grandma died (which was like the person that she was SUPER close to) she still didn't even talk about how much she missed her grandma but just comforted Jili because she was going through some serious stress and hard times. She was always there for Jili. No matter how hard of a time An Yi went through she would always put Jili first and comfort her instead. That's really amazing isn't it? Do you think that if someone had just made fun of you and made you feel like you were worthless and then you found out that your friend had just had a really rough day too, do you think that you would start telling her all about how it was the worst day ever and just feel sorry for yourself or would you say nothing about your day and just comfort your friend and concentrate on making them feel better...not yourself. I think that's really what a true friend is. It's not someone that you have sleepovers with, or someone that you always sit with or talk to and stuff like that. I think An Yi is a perfect example of a true friend,....she was there for Jili when no one else was and she comforted her and stayed with her until she felt better. That's the kind of friend I want to be to people and I hope you do too. That's the true meaning of friends and loving one another, this book shows how much Jili was brave and dealt with hard times and how amazing it was that she did all that.....but I think that An Yi was just as brave and amazing because she put others before herself even when she was really hurting inside.

Ji-li Jiang has changed so much ever since the cultural revolution. She started out as a young 12 year old girl that was really good at everything in school and was kind of "popular." Then The Cultural Revolution and her life changed completely. She found out things about her family that she would never have dreamed were true! Because of her family status she was treated like dirt at school and looked down on. She was denied chances to do things or be part of activities and clubs that she really didn't want to be part of. Even after all of that had started happening to her grandmother became very weak so she couldn't help around the house as much, her mom was always getting sick and dizzy so she couldn't do anything either, and her dad went to prison! So now she is almost 14 (by the way this has been happening for almost 2 years) and she has to take care of her 2 younger siblings, her grandmother and mother, and find some way to help her father. That would be so stressful and scary! But in the end she had her family and the one person that was always faithful and there for her: An Yi her best friend. She stuck with her and helped her through all of her hard times and when she was teased and stuff like that. Finally her father got out of prison and her mother got better so she could rest. And they all ended up moving to America. This is an amazing story about Ji-li's life and the way she went from being a little puny 12 year old good at everything kid. To being mocked and treated like garbage and taking the responsibility of keeping your family together and turning into a very mature and grown up 14 year old. She was a real trooper and an example of how we should all act when times get tough, we shouldn't just give up and say it's too hard, we should fight and WIN and stay faithful to eachother through the whole thing. I really enjoyed this book and if you didn't read it you should because it can teach you a lot about people's lives in the cultural revolution.

After Ji-li's dad blew it and she was sad,.....soooo much happened! The communist leader guy (Mao Zedong) has made ALL these rules about fourolds (which is like kind of Americanish things.) People aren't allowed to have any of those and if they do those things will be taken away and they'll be embarrassed in front of everyone who's watching. There was a da-zi-bao written about Ji-li (which is a poster that says all these "bad" things about her.) She had to go and force her aunt with her classmates to read aloud a da-zi-bao about her. They fired their housekeeper (but also a really good friend of the family) and she suddenly found out that her grandfather was a landlord and that's like really bad in the eyes of all the supporters of Mao Zedong. She's an outcast from other people in her school, and pretty much anyone who knows her. She's been going through even harder times than before with the dance thingy, and it's getting more and more depressing, scary, and stressful. Hopefully it will get better soon!!!

"Red Scarf Girl" so far, is about this girl named Ji-li and she's going to school. She's really good at like taikwondo, I think, and she performs for her class and there was this lady there that was from this dance academy place and she said that Ji-li was really good and flexible so she asked her and a few other students to go and try out for the dance academy. Ji-li was really excited....but then her father like totally blew and said that she shouldn't try out because they would have to have political backgrounds on her family and he said that would be bad. She asked him why, but he would tell her. So she got really upset and now she's really sad and bummed out in life. That's my 1st blog entry on "Red Scarf Girl."

Secret....sssshhhhhhh

Ummmmm......I have never just kept a secret to my self. Not saying that I'll tell other people's secrets, but if I have a secret of my own I'll always tell someone. Usually one of my really close friends or my family. I know there are always secrets going around in middle school...usually about who people like or who is dating and stuff like that, but that's probably all the secrets that I've ever had. I've never let any secrets get out to people unless I want to tell them. So..most of my secrets have never been told, but I never really had any secrets in the first place. There was one time though, when we were hosting a surprise birthday party for someone and accidentally I let it slip. It kind of ruined the whole thing, but not too many people got mad at me. I think secrets are not things that you should joke around about and maybe give hints to if you're not supposed to. It may not be hurting you, if it's your secret, but if it's someone else's secret it's really important to them and you should respect their privacy and be very grateful that they trusted you enough to tell you. Live up to that trust and don't let your friend down. Secrets are special and they're only for you to know and whoever you tell. Not for someone else to know that you think "won't tell anybody." Everyone has secrets sooner or later in their life and they shouldn't all be told. Sometimes secrets are meant to always be secrets and never be let out. So that's my opinion on what secrets are and...that was pretty much all of my past secrets. Sorry it's not that interesting.=)

COURAGE!!

Courage. Hmmmmm.....I don't know if there was ever a time in my life when I was like truly "courageous." The only thing I can really think of was when I was like 7 or 8 years old and my family really wanted to go on this rollercoaster ride that was like HUMONGOUS and I really didn't want to go because I was totally freaked out. It had 2 loopdy-loops and the hill at the beginning was the highest I've ever seen! But eventually they talked me into it, even though I was really scared, and it turned out to be a lot of fun. So I guess that was my courageous moment in my life. Now rollercoasters are my absolute most favorite rides at amusement parks and the bigger the better!! So I guess that was like a turning point in my life so I went from totally freaking out, to EXTREME DARE DEVIL! I still get scared when I go on really freaky rollercoasters, but courage isn't supposed to be not being scared. It's supposed to be getting past the point of freaking out because you're so scared and doing what is really important then. So in my case it was really important to go on that rollercoaster, and it turned out to be tons of fun!!
